Story
Launching the Larick Centre is undoubtedly one of the major achievements of Tayport’s community in recent times. Opening in 2020, during the challenging conditions of the COVID 19 pandemic, the Larick Centre and its Café have gradually established themselves as popular venues for refreshment, entertainment, relaxation, and education. We have hosted birthday parties, vaccination clinics, weddings, wrestling contests, christenings, dog shows, concerts, funerals and many other activities and events. The building has won several awards for its design and is generally very popular with all who make use of its facilities.
Tempting though it might be to relax and congratulate ourselves on this undoubted success, we are constantly striving to make the Larick Centre even better. Our current project is to raise the funding required to install additional solar panels on the roof of the centre. This will provide two major benefits: saving on our energy bills and reducing our annual carbon footprint by over 11 tonnes.
In common with all other organisations and households, our energy bills have sky-rocketed. The annual electricity bill of the Larick Centre has increased from £12K to £30K per annum. Additional rooftop solar PV should offset some of this increase, perhaps by as much as £8K, greatly boosting the sustainability of the services we offer.
With these benefits in mind, we are pleased to announce that our fundraising efforts for this solar PV project have been very successful and now we are just £1,000 short of the target sum. We are keen to get this project started as soon as possible in order to exploit the sunny weather in spring and summer for which Tayport is justly famous and are hoping that you might be in a position to make a donation to help us reach our target. We appreciate that the current economic climate means that not everyone will be able to do so, but if you can, we would be very grateful.
