Staff and Board members at Special Olympics Great Britain are embarking on a 30-day, 2,600-mile challenge in the run-up to Christmas to raise £10,000 to support its athletes.
Special Olympics GB uses the power of sport to transform the lives of children and adults with an intellectual (learning) disability. In March 2025, 10 of its athletes will travel to Italy for a transformational sporting experience, by competing in the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025.
However, to help fund the best possible sporting experience for the athletes, staff and board members at the registered charity are aiming to collectively swim, cycle, run and walk the equivalent number of miles from Aberdeen, the most northerly location of its competing athletes, to the host city of Turin, and back again!
The #TeamSOGB Turin Challenge gets underway on Tuesday 12 November and completes a month later on Thursday 12 December when the team hope to have covered the distance.
The Special Olympics World Winter Games takes place from 8 to 15 March 2025, with more than 1,500 athletes from 103 countries set to compete in eight different sports.
Team Special Olympics GB athletes are competing in the figure skating and alpine skiing competitions. Throughout the eight-day event, they are supported by a volunteer coaching and management team of 11.
