Story
Last year we ran, walked, cycled and swam over four times around the world but in true Belron style, with your help, we aim to top that this year.
This year will mark a special moment as Belron employees celebrate 20 years of getting together to support our global charity partner, Afrika Tikkun. It all started in 2002 when our Belron CEO Gary Lubner and a small number of people took part in the first Belron Triathlon at the ExCel Centre in London. The following year 60 people competed in the event and raised 40,000 EUR, allowing funding for 8 cooks and thousands of nutritious meals to be provided to communities in Johannesburg. By 2011, our 10th year, 1,000 people took part in the event raising 1 million EUR. This money funded all the child and youth development programmes across five communities in South Africa for a year. Across the years we have exceeded our own expectations and last year, despite the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, we raised over 1.7 million EUR in support of Afrika Tikkun. This money has been used towards funding the digitisation of all Afrika Tikkun's programmes, funding the child and youth programme at Alexandra centre, the early childhood development programme in Mfuleni and the extension of Afrika Tikkun's core programmes into additional communities in South Africa.
The Impact of Your Donation:
Every donation makes an impact. In addition to Afrika Tikkun's core educational, social and health services, this year they are focusing on food security and digitisation within the township communities they work in. Here's how your donation could help:
5 EUR provides a child with a backpack and 3 t-shirts for the year
10 EUR provides 10 packets of vegetable seeds for our young gardeners
20 EUR provides enough data for a young person to participate in online classes for a month
50 EUR allows the purchase of 7 chickens for our Agripreneurship programme
115 EUR provides ECD learners access to a tablet with interactive curriculum learning
