Story
The Snowdon Trek has been inspired by Ghost Dog Jack, a rescued Greek dog, who village post lady, Sophie, met on her rounds.
Having spent 3 years incarcerated 24/7 in the hell-hole of Lemnos Municipal Shelter, Jack was severely traumatized. With no contact or socialization with the outside world and left for days stinking in his own pee and poo - with flies circling his dirty bucket of kibble - Jack was completely shut down.
In 2019 Jack got his lucky break and came to the UK to live in the village where Sophie was the much-loved village post lady.
Sophie was inspired by Jacks foster family and watched as Jack slowly learned to let strangers into his life. Sophie understood the reason Jack was so traumatized but knew she was powerless to change his past.
She thought of all the dogs left back in the shelter. With her job she wasnt able to foster but was determined to do whatever she could do for the dogs left behind in hell.
On July 18th 2022 Sophie and 6 of her friends are planning to trek Snowdon 3 times in one day - the equivalent of climbing Mount Olympus.
The money raised will fund the creation of a social area with a covered run and play area where the dogs can run free rather than be incarcerated in a tiny kennel 24/7, as Jack was for 3 years.
We will continue to raise awareness and try to find homes for Ghost Dogs like Jack. You can find 100s of them available for adoption on our website: https://www.starlightbarking.co.uk/ghost-dogs/
On behalf of Ghost Dogs everywhere an enormous thank you to these ordinary, extraordinary people for raising awareness for theIr plight.
