Story
Our second ever Sleep Easy saw 90 phenomenal fundraisers slept out by the pitch at King Power Stadium in March. A huge thank you and well done to everyone who has so far raised over £20,000 to support local people experiencing homelessness.
Whilst we know this doesn't replicate what it really feels like to be homeless, participants raised significant funds and awareness by swapping their beds for cardboard boxes on the concrete.
A huge thank you
Well done to everyone who left their creature comforts behind and put themselves out in the cold, including; Rock Kitchen Harris, PA Housing, Central England Co-operative, Unite Students, Melita POS Ltd, Parallel Office and Document Solutions, Morrow, Leicestershire County Council, De Montfort University, Leicester City in the Community, Phoenix programme, probation staff and YMCA Coalville Charity Shop.
We can't speak highly enough of the incredible support from Leicester City Football Club, hosting us for a second time! It also came together thanks to Leicester based Boxes and Packaging and VF Corporation for providing human sized boxes, Holiday Inn Express for breakfast, Becky for bringing the owl, exercise from Leicester City in the Community and the absolutely awesome sounds of Curtis Matthew and Steve Smith on saxophone.
What was it like?
“It was such a humbling experience. The realisation that this is how so many people in and around Leicester have to sleep every single night, really brought it back home as to why I was there and raising money for such a great cause. There was a real sense of camaraderie amongst everyone involved, which was great to see! Thank you to everyone at YMCA Leicestershire & LCFC for organising such a lovely event."
