Story
The Siyafunda 3000s is an exhilarating endurance adventure across Snowdonia National Park to raise funds for Siyafunda Ngemvelo, a community conservation project set up by Connected Planet Foundation and Dogs4Wildlife.
We will be completing the Welsh 3000s, which is a trek across the top 15 peaks in Wales, all above 3000ft. The trek is over 40km and around 4000m of elevation, that's half of Mount Everest! It Also includes the infamous knife-edge ridge of Crib Goch. And the best bit, we will be aiming to complete it in less than 24 hours!
The Siyafunda 3000s will be a huge mental and physical test that will push our team to the max. Upon completion, we will have completed one of the toughest hikes in the UK.
Every penny raised will go towards the Siyafunda Ngemvelo programme in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The programme takes children from communities surrounding wildlife reserves, into their local reserve, to connect with, and learn about the amazing wildlife there. Each trip has a focus on environmental education and teaches the children about the ecosystems that they live alongside.
The children get to spend all day at their local reserve, experiencing wildlife such as rhinos for the first time, whilst also learning the importance of protecting them. This is of huge importance in a region where poaching for rhinos has increased dramatically.
Despite living in close proximity to these amazing wildlife reserves, most of the local community have never had the chance to visit. Through this collaborative project, we aim to change that, connecting the community to conservation through education.
Funds raised from the Siyafunda 3000s will allow many more children in KwaZulu Natal to visit their local reserve and build a love for these magical places.
Through these exciting, educational-based trips we hope to create a generation of young South Africans who not only have full access to their wildlife heritage, but who are passionate about protecting it too.
