Story

Sir Bobby was receiving a trial treatment for cancer when he launched The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation in 2008.

His initial aim was to equip a cancer drug centre, what became the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, which he opened in February 2009. He was one of the first patients to receive treatment there.

Part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, Sir Bobby described his Foundation as his last and greatest team.

Working within the NHS and in collaboration with other charities and organisations, it funds a range of innovative cancer projects for children and adults to help find more effective ways to detect and treat the disease.

This September, for the third year and with the fantastic support of Sir Brendan Foster, a group of football writers are coming together as Sir Bobby’s Team to raise funds for the charity by running the world’s largest half marathon, the Great North Run.

Running in football style shirts, the team of writers all knew, worked with or admired Sir Bobby, and this is their way of showing support for his foundation.

Please support the life changing and life saving work of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation by sponsoring Sir Bobby’s Team for this year’s AJ Bell Great North Run.
