Story
Sir Bobby was receiving a trial treatment for cancer when he launched The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation in 2008.
His initial aim was to equip a cancer drug centre, what became the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, which he opened in February 2009. He was one of the first patients to receive treatment there.
Part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, Sir Bobby described his Foundation as his last and greatest team.
Working within the NHS and in collaboration with other charities and organisations, it funds a range of innovative cancer projects for children and adults to help find more effective ways to detect and treat the disease.
With the fantastic support of Sir Brendan Foster, a group of football writers, Mark Robson (Sir Bobby’s son) and Keith Farquharson (a cancer patient supported by The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation) are coming together as Sir Bobby’s Team to raise funds for the charity by running the AJ Bell Great North Run this September.
Keith from Newcastle, was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2017. At the time, Keith was told that half of people with his diagnosis would die within a year and he credits the treatment he is receiving at the Sir Bobby Robson Centre with extending his life.
Please support the work of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation by sponsoring Sir Bobby’s Team for this year’s AJ Bell Great North Run.
Everyone kind enough to sponsor the runners will be entered into a random prize draw to win a very special Sir Bobby’s Team t-shirt (size large). Please note, this does not include anonymous donations, the lucky winner will be informed via email and the t-shirt will be posted to a UK address. Thank you.
*The prize draw has now closed (22/09/23). Any further donations won't be entered.
