Story

I joined the army in 1989 and was medically retired in 2018 after serving a total of 28 years with the Army Catering Corps, RLC and MPGS.

In November 2015 I went into hospital for routine surgery. A month later, after being rushed into hospital twice with breathing difficulties, I collapsed outside. I woke from a coma and was told I had to leave the army. Suddenly, everything was taken from me and I was medically discharged in 2018.

It was while I was at my lowest point and in a very dark place contemplating ending my life that a friend told me about On Course Foundation, the military charity that supports the recovery of injured and sick service personnel through the sport of golf. I looked into it, filled out a form and went to my first OCF event at The London Golf Show run by American Golf. I went with my brother - as I suffer from PTSD - and was introduced to Will and Anne from OCF as well as other beneficiaries who made me feel welcome. The golf, camaraderie and friendship that OCF offers keeps my demons at bay and has given me a purpose in life.

OCF have a fundraising event called March for Mulligans this summer and I have set myself a challenge. I cannot play golf without a buggy, however, from 6 - 23 July I am going to walk 18 holes by walking one hole a day. It may not sound much but for me it is like running 10 miles a day for 18 days.

I really hope you can support me and help raise funds for this great charity. I believe that golf saved and is still saving my life.
