Story
A Listening Service for the siblings (specifically siblings of children on the autism spectrum) who are showing signs of anxiety.
The Siblings Listening service is provided in 13 primary schools across Sheffield, for children (who have siblings on the autism spectrum and/or ADHD) who are showing signs of anxiety. After working with the Siblings Listener, we would like each child to have a reminder of the work they have done and the progress they have made in the sessions. In many of the sessions our trained listener will use peg dolls to help the child to express their feelings. These are made by Michelle West @Michelle Makes. We would therefore like to give each child a peg doll as a keepsake to take with them and a prompt to use some of the well-being strategies they have learnt.
There has been a positive response to the service from children and parents and staff:
"They are helpful, If I feel sad at the start, I feel happy at the end."
"You repeat what has been said at the end so I know you have listened."
Parents and staff have also recognised the positive impact the support has provided: "S has become a much more active participant in the class and challenges herself. She is more confident with her learning and has made better progress."
