Story
On Saturday 22nd April we will be joining together as a company for The Shone Building Big Walk, a sponsored walk to fundraise for the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) MND research programmes. This is a cause we hold incredibly close to our hearts following the devastating diagnosis of Tim our much-loved colleague and friend. We would love for as many as possible to support us by sponsoring this event to raise much needed awareness and fundraising. Through these funds raised, you'll improve the lives of patients long into the future.
Find out more about SITraN's research below:
MND is a terminal condition. It affects the brain and nerves and is nearly always fatal. There is currently no cure.
Those with the condition will lose the ability to walk, use their arms and hands, speak, eat and breathe, in no particular order. It is commonly regarded as a rare condition. But this isn't true. 1 in every 300 people, across all UK communities, will develop MND in their lifetime. MND kills six people in the UK every day, with a third of those diagnosed losing their lives within just a year. Tragically, people die from this devastating disease because there are currently no treatments that can stop it.
But there's hope.
SITraN is one of the world leading centres based at Sheffield University for research into Motor Neurone Disease, Alzheimers and Parkinsons Disease. From basic neuroscience research to novel therapies and clinical trials their aim is to improve the lives of patients with neurodegenerative disorders and their families worldwide. Please take a look at their website for more information on their amazing ground breaking work.
MND research has now reached a point where life-saving treatments are potentially on the horizon. And Sheffield is more than ready to be a frontrunner to find the answers. SITraN at the University of Sheffield has world leading MND researchers working tirelessly to find a cure for this debilitating disease. They are the first in the UK to successfully run a clinical trial for MND using gene therapy. And this therapy is helping to advance our research to ultimately deliver treatments to patients living with this devastating condition.
Your support can make a much needed breakthrough in MND come sooner. And improve the lives of patients long into the future.
