Shivia is supporting the Covid-19 response effort in India. Our staff in West Bengal who would normally be distributing chickens for our Poultry Development Services programme are now teaching women to make face masks for their community.

Story
"It is no use saying 'we are doing our best', you have got to succeed in doing what is necessary." Winston Churchill
In India, a country of 1.37 billion people, the spread of Covid-19 could be truly devastating. People are being advised to wear face-masks as a means of reducing the risk of infection, but they simply don't have access to them and can hardly afford to buy them anyway. We are supporting these vulnerable people with a mask-making initiative in the villages where we normally distribute chickens for our Poultry Development Services programme. Members of our field team who live and work within these communities, are re-training our beneficiaries (our women poultry farmers) to make cotton face-marks to WHO recommendations and will then distribute them to thousands of local families in need. These women have lost their livelihoods from poultry farming due to the Covid-19 lockdown but sewing face-masks is giving them a new source of income and hope. Please help us to reach our target of 25,000 masks with a donation. Just £5 could make 25 masks. Thank you
