Story
The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on Shine and our community. We're a tiny charity and all of our big fundraising events have been cancelled. At the same time, the demand for our services is increasing; young people diagnosed with cancer are at risk of infection due to their disease and treatment, and many are facing treatment delays or cancellations, causing additional stress and anxiety at what is already an exceptionally difficult time. We are exceptionally worried about continuing our support to young adults who are now not only facing cancer but also the prospect of Covid-19 infection.
We are adapting our services, moving away from face-to-face meet ups and developing more digital services. But we need your help!
While there are fewer opportunities for you to take part in in large events (like runs or bike races), we need to keep our services running for those who need us. Will you make a donation now or take on a challenge that you can do alone, in your house or virtually with others?
Please help us so that we can continue to support our community at a time when they need us most.
About Shine
Shine is the only UK charity that exists exclusively to support adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis.
There is never a good time to have cancer, but we know that younger adults face different issues than their older or younger counterparts - and that many of these are not dealt with by traditional cancer support charities and services.
Our vision is that every adult in the UK living with cancer in their 20s, 30s or 40s can access the help and support that they need in a way that suits their lifestyle, and that they are a part of a confident, supportive and empowered community of young adults living with cancer.
Our mission is to provide tailored information and peer support for anyone in their 20s, 30s or 40s diagnosed with any cancer.
Shine now has 19 local Shine Networks across the UK and runs a number of annual events although we've had to cancel or significantly delay all of these and move our Network meet ups online. As a patient-led organisation, Shine works hard to ensure that young adults with cancer play a key role in the design and delivery of every one of our activities.
