The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileNCS is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for 15 to 17-year-olds in England. The programme allows young people to make new friends, experience new activities and learn new skills whilst challenging themselves and contributing to the local community.
By supporting the Sheffield Children's Helipad Appeal, our young people will be raising funds to ensure patients who urgently need critical care get to the Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's as soon as possible.
Currently, air ambulances can only land in daytime hours in Weston Park opposite the hospital. This restricts its use in the winter months particularly and is far from ideal, with some Helicopter Emergency Medical Services not wanting to land due to it being an inadequate landing site. Once landed, the patient is met by Sheffield Children's specially trained Major Trauma team and transferred by stretcher across the busy main road to ED. This is the one time we don't want children waiting for the green man.
Being able to land at Sheffield Children's dedicated paediatric Major Trauma Centre improves the chances of a child surviving. Studies have concluded that wherever possible, major trauma patients under 16 years should attend a dedicated paediatric MTC first for the best possible outcome.
