Story
Shared Lives Plus is the UK charity and membership body for more than 6,000 Shared Lives carers. Our vision is to build kinder, stronger communities so that everyone has the chance to lead a full life, regardless of the support they need. Shared Lives carers look after people in their own home, providing ongoing care and support for adults living with learning disabilities, dementia, or mental ill health. It can also support people who may need additional care in their older age, young people leaving care or provide respite for people needing to convalesce after leaving hospital. All of these situations enable people to live in a family home, sharing daily experiences and allowing them to thrive.
Shared Lives schemes, of which there are over 150 in the UK, match people with a carer through a comprehensive matching process, working closely with their families to ensure that the partnership provides the maximum benefit for both client and carer. Shared Lives Plus provides constant help, support and guidance for carers and schemes, as well as providing a regional and national voice for shared living, seeking to influence government agenda and policies.
