This is a house rebuild project for the family of Martyr Bhai Balwant Singh, who hailed from the village of Dhappai, Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur.
Bhai Balwant Singh had three sons: Harvinder Singh (20 years old), who worked as a truck driver but tragically died in an accident; Sukhjinder Singh (40 years old), who lives with his in-laws; and Jaspinder Singh (34 years old), who has not been married due to financial hardships. Jaspinder Singh struggles with a severe drug addiction and works as a daily wage laborer to support his habit, occasionally providing money to his mother or spending it on drugs.
Although Bhai Balwant Singh’s family owns land, they only have a small place to live and no other property.
Since 1984, during the Sikh struggle, Bhai Balwant Singh actively supported the Sikh warriors, often meeting with them and sharing their thoughts. On one occasion, when the police and CRPF surrounded a group of Sikh fighters, including Shaheed Bhai Partap Singh Dhapai, Satnam Singh, and Avtar Singh, Bhai Balwant Singh was working in the field. Upon seeing the police, he sought refuge in the sugarcane fields, but the police confronted him there and martyred him. His family later learned that he had been shot and killed.
The family, devastated by the loss, consists of Jasbir Kaur, aged 70, his elderly mother, and his son Jaspinder Singh, who live alone in a makeshift shelter made from tarpaulin. The house has no provisions for water, a toilet, or a bathroom. This family is in dire need of assistance, and any support to help rebuild their home and improve their living conditions would be greatly appreciated.
We are therefore appealing for £6,320 to help rebuild the family home.
