Story
Few communities were as hard hit by Covid as the Dalit families of Patripul, near Mumbai. Here Global Care's partners fed hundreds of men, women and children seven times over eight months in 2020, and as India staggers under the impact of a second wave of Covid, we continue to support them today.
You can see and hear more about Global Care's work in Patripul during the pandemic by watching the video below.
We hope to raise £13,000 to support a short-term feeding programme in Patripul, where our partners have been a lifeline for children and families devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. Initially supplying emergency feeding, we then want to focus on helping children re-engage with learning.
When our centres are able to reopen, our partners are concerned that many students will not return: They are working to support their families, or are demotivated by the long break from education.
We want to encourage attendance, by providing food parcels at the end of each week to the children who attend. We hope to re-engage families who have given up on education as a route out of poverty, and give them a good reason to stop sending their children out to work or beg.
Excess funds will support children made more vulnerable through coronavirus in other slum settings, like the students of Spurgeons Academy, Kibera, Kenya, or the Pavement Club in Kolkata.

£3.50 will pay for one food parcel for a child for a week
£14 will pay for food parcels for a child for one month
£50 will buy enough rice for 62 children for a week
£100 will pay for 12,800 litres of water for school children in Kenya
