Story
David Malins Memorial Bird Feeding Station (DMMBFS)
David was a founding member of the Friends of Selsdon Wood (FSW) and worked tirelessly to conserve the wood and enhance the environment until he died in 2021. The DMMBFS was set up in his memory by FSW with the help of some donations in his memory and has been financed since by FSW. FSW workers are all unpaid volunteers.
We know that people love to watch the birds here and we hope they will use the information board, their Apps and our website etc to learn more about them.
Sadly, there are times the feeders ( special heavy duty ones to thwart the squirrels etc ) are vandalised beyond repair and have to be replaced . It is possible the pool will need maintenance in due course as the original lining is being cracked by the surrounding tree roots. The council is unlikely to finance this as they probably would not regard it as essential works. The food provided for the birds of course is not cheap ( excuse the pun!) even though we buy in bulk so we hope we can tap into the continuing generosity of the visitors to the wood with this campaign.
There is no set target or guidance regarding donations for this project - anything you can afford is welcome - and, of course, Gift Aid can be applied!
Details of our other projects - currently, the regeneration of Linden Glade and Pool and the commissioning of some Woodland carvings, and, in the Autumn, our restarted 'Stones not Mud' project to fight the muddy paths - can be found elsewhere on our other Just Giving campaign pages as well as on our website www.https:/friendsofselsdonwood.co.uk
Do contact us by email if you need any other information.
Thank you for your interest - and especially for your gift if you decide to donate.
