Your support at the London Marathon
The London Marathon is one of our biggest fundraising events in the calendar, with tens of thousands of pounds already raised and this year we are so excited to welcome you to be a part of it!
In 2022, 36 people took part in the marathon for SeeAbility and collectively raised nearly £65k. In 2023, with 49 runners taking part we know that you can beat this target and help us raised much needed funds that keep supporting people who have learning disabilities or autism, who may also have sight loss. We need your drive and ambition so that we can ensure that the people we support live ambitious lives and achieve things they never thought possible, whether that's forming more friendships and relationships, enjoying new experiences and activities or finding employment. About SeeAbility
We encourage people with disabilities to challenge what they expect from life, from themselves and from wider society. The people we support overcome huge barriers to achieve exciting new things every day - they challenge us all to think about whats possible and to rethink disability.
Our self-advocacy, influencing, supported employment and digital inclusion programmes mean more people with disabilities can achieve their ambitions, while challenging assumptions, attitudes and policies.
Registered as The Royal School for the Blind, SeeAbility is one of the oldest disability charities in the UK and has pioneered specialist support for over 220 years.
Tim secures his first paid job
Before Tim moved into his SeeAbility home in Oxford, he had never been supported to focus on his goals or given advice on looking at paid employment, but instead was always steered towards voluntary roles.
So, when he joined our supported employment programme, Ready, Willing and Able, he and his employment coach Rasha were determined to find him his first paid job that he would enjoy.
Rasha told us:
From speaking with Tims support team, we knew that he can lose interest very quickly, so it was essential that Tim found a job he would enjoy. I feel proud of how far Tim has come, from not having the confidence to apply for roles online to interviewing and securing his first job. I feel very privileged to support people like Tim through Ready, Willing and Able to achieve their aspirations. Watching Tims personal development and the joy that came from employment has been wonderful.
