Story
Scumrun HQ are delighted to announce that the nominated charity for the 2023 event will be Happy Days Childrens Charity.
Happy Days works with local communities right across the UK to provide vital respite breaks, day trips and activities for children with a wide range of additional needs. The young people they help range in age from 3 to 17 and come from many different backgrounds and cultures and suffer many different conditions. Their astonishing work helps those with learning difficulties, physical or mental disabilities, emotional challenges and those with acute, chronic or life limiting illnesses. They also help young people who have been abused or neglected, have witnessed or suffered from domestic violence, been bereaved or act as carers for a parent or a sibling.
Ed White, founder of Scumrun says:
Were really excited to be raising funds for such a great charity in Happy Days. The work Happy Days does has a massive impact on children and their families, and is all about bringing joy and fun to those who have had the hardest of times. After the past few years these experiences count for so much and are really needed. Every penny raised by teams participating in Scumrun themselves, or those supporting them will go a long way and we hope there will be a large amount raised that can make a big difference.
About Scumrun
Scumrun has been operating for over a decade and is the original banger rally, and first of its kind. The event, run by a team of experienced professionals, has raised in excess of £850k for childrens charities in the UK since its inception. Entrants take cars of varying value, and in various classes, on a mystery tour that changes each year. There are various challenges and checkpoints to see along the way.
Teams are encouraged to modify their cars, and themselves (in fancy dress) and a top secret route is divulged each morning to set out their destination for that evening. A major change for 2023 is that following travel uncertainties during the Covid-19 pandemic, the epitome of the 2023 route has been disclosed to allow participants to plan; Monaco Grand Prix. Each team is encouraged to raise a minimum of £500 for the nominated charity.
Rob Cox, Fundraising Manager, Happy Days Childrens Charity says:
Were totally thrilled to be the benefitting charity of Scumrun 2023, helping us to give brave children right across the UK a really special experience of their own with a magical break. Their support, and the efforts of their amazing participants, will be giving literally thousands of children with serious physical, mental and emotional challenges, a chance to get out, make new friends, develop new skills and build confidence in the face of adversity. What a difference a day makes, and what an incredible difference the support of Scumrun will make!
About Happy Days Childrens Charity
Set up by three mums in 1992, Happy Days Childrens Charity helps families and groups by organising and funding special days and holidays such as trips to the seaside, theatres, zoos, museums, outdoor activity centres, sporting events and other educational and cultural activities for children in the UK living with mental, physical and emotional difficulties. With fundraisers help, Happy Days are able to support almost 25,000 children with additional needs every year, removing barriers to give them a chance to get out, make new friends, develop new skills and build confidence in the face of adversity.
As well as helping individual families, they offer support to hundreds of groups such as SEN schools and arrange special days for other charities including childrens hospitals, womens refuges and victim support services, to name just a few.
