Story
The School 2 School Run Challenge is an initiative by Luton Lions in partnership with Luton Foodbank. 2023 marks 10 years of Luton Foodbank serving those in need in our town in their time of need. To celebrate 10 years of service we'll be covering a distance of 10km this year for the annual School 2 School Run.
Don't worry, you can run, jog or walk covering the distance between school to school supported by the Luton Lions to help raise funds for families experiencing poverty in Luton. Alternatively, you can run, jog or walk from your own school, for further details click: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/school-2-school-run-tickets-518011154307
At this time of year, many families find themselves having to choose between buying food and paying for heating. Participating in the challenge will help raise funds for Luton Foodbank's winter food parcels campaign. Each food parcel costs £15 to put together and contains essential items to feed a family for a week.
This is a great opportunity to get the school community involved i.e. teachers, parents and children to improve their physical wellbeing but also help local families. The School 2 School Run Challenge is also about raising awareness about the impact of poverty on the lives of children and their families. It is about the desire of teachers, parents and the wider community to break down poverty lines in our town to ensure no child goes hungry in Luton.
We recommend £30 as a minimum fundraising target. It will help Luton Foodbank put together two winter food parcels. Each food parcel will contain essential items to feed a family for a week.
If you have a school team we encourage you to set the fundraising target higher. The more you raise the more families we will be able to support.
If you are a teacher we encourage you to get pupils in your school involved. The week beginning 6th March will be a week of action for the School 2 School Run. It's an opportunity to engage pupils about the importance of Luton Foodbank in our town. You may wish to inspire pupils to train with you during that week to generate awareness about your campaign, help with fundraising or invite them and thier families to the finish line at Wardown Park to celebrate your collective achievement.
