Story
We have been supporting isolated, older people in Sheffield since 1966. We have a fantastic bank of volunteers who help combat loneliness by visiting older people for an hour a week for a cuppa and a chat. We also provide telephone support and run a traditional pen pal scheme to keep older people connected.
Meet Fred Hall (aged 82)
Fred Hall, says regular chats with an SCCCC volunteer are one of the highlights of his week.
Fred was paired with Beryl - a volunteer with the charitys Good Neighbour Scheme, which aims to help older people who have little other means of company or support.
Fred said: Ive been part of SCCCCs Good Neighbour Scheme ever since my wife moved into a care home when it became too difficult for me to look after her. For me, joining the scheme was just about being able to speak to interesting people.
Just having someone different to talk to has helped my life tremendously and Im really grateful to SCCCC for the support they are giving me- whenever Im talking to people I do mentioned the scheme and how much it is helping me.
