Were fundraising to equip front-line teams with game-changing conservation technologies to protect wildlife and enhance habitats to bring peace and security to reserves. Were bringing essential connectivity, communications and sensing devices to vast landscapes, enabling conservation managers to pre-empt and stop poaching, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.
Through technology, we can empower each ranger with the eyes and ears of ten, multiplying their workforce to stop poaching, reduce human-wildlife conflicts and help restore thriving ecosystems.
Already, weve helped to recover and protect over 30 species, including black and white rhinos, elephants, wild dogs and brown hyenas across five long-running projects in Kenya, South Africa and Zambia. In our first 18 months at Sabi Sands, South Africa, our tools, coupled with effective park management, helped reduce rhino poaching by 96%.
Over 5,200,000km squared hectares of wild ecosystems are now connected and under protection with the help of technology. With only 12.5% of Earth's landmass dedicated to natural reserves, our role in enhancing protection, peace and security in wild places has never been so crucial.
Rangers are at the forefront of our cause
Despite their critical roles in protecting our natural heritage, rangers continue to work in challenging conditions and lack the resources and support they need. Only 43% of rangers have access to a communications device on patrol. Weve equipped over 150 rangers with connectivity and communication devices, ensuring they can call for help and give warnings of any potentially harmful activity to wildlife or themselves.
Pushing forward for landscape protection and rewilding
By the end of 2022, well have provided a full backbone reserve area network to five African conservancies and equipped six operations rooms with tools for proactive conservation management and protection. Were also helping provide basic connectivity to an additional 19 parks to bring reliable Wifi to park HQ to keep people, rangers and wildlife safe, ensuring that different parks needs are addressed and supported.
We aim to protect 10 million hectares of vital habitat and improve the lives of more than 10,000 local people. Can you help us get there?
