Story
On the 13th May 2019 Welicar Educational Centre opened its doors for the first time offering a free primary education to children of the Nairobi slums. Funded by donations and child sponsorship the school is on a plot where the landlord charges a monthly rent. Now the landlord has decided he wants to sell the land and will be putting it on the open market.
He has given the school the first option of buying it for well below the market price but it's money they just don't have. Covid-19 has seriously impacted on our ability to raise funds and has affected people the world over, even raising money to pay for the monthly upkeep has proved challenging. If this school was to close it will mean that 278 children, many of whom are orphans, or disadvantaged, will be left to roam the slums once again. We can't let that happen.
Welicar's founder and Director Elisha Ooga says "Welicar is committed to empowering the slums forgotten children to make a better life for themselves. Therefore without the school, the children would have no choice other than to turn to street life and undesirable and unhealthy ways of acquiring a little money to buy food and water. On the streets even primary aged children are at risk of being drawn into forced labour, gang crime, prostitution and drug abuse to name just a few. Please help us save our school!!!"
Please help us raise the money to keep this school open and give the children a future, they both deserve and would not otherwise be able to look forward to, and help us to invest in the futures of the generations of children yet to come.
