Story
Welcome to Save the Rhino International's Rhino Wheelchair fundraising campaign!
On Sunday 21 April 2024, spectators at this year’s London Marathon will witness a historic moment as the first-ever rhino costume wheelchair charges through the streets of London. This innovative creation not only symbolises the importance of protecting endangered wildlife and the planet, but also promoting accessibility in endurance events.
The first-of-its-kind costume will be worn by Martin Turner, a seasoned competitor from North Wales Crusaders Wheelchair team. Supported by runners Mark Jones and Samantha Hann, the team's perseverance, passion, and, ultimately, pavement-pounding at the London Marathon, are for good reason.
Today, three of the five rhino species are at extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. And every rhino species is under immense threat from poaching, habitat loss, and the climate crisis.
Our vision is for all five rhino species to thrive. Together with support from extraordinary people like those taking on the 2024 London Marathon, we can get closer to achieving our vision. By participating in this world-renowned event, our marathoners are helping to raise awareness and vital funds to protect the world's remaining rhinos.
All donations towards this fundraising page will be supporting Save the Rhino International and other project partners (Coleg Y Cymoedd, Motivation, Wales Rugby League and Wild Connections Ltd.). Funds will be split between all five partners, covering costs and supporting the important work that they all do. 100% of any funds raised above £30,000 will support rhino conservation via Save the Rhino International.
If you can, please consider donating to our fundraiser and support Martin as he charges towards this rhino-sized adventure. Your donation will come directly to us at Save the Rhino International, and you'll be helping to lead the charge in rhino conservation!
