Story

This Refugee Week - we are desperate for a lifeline of our own!

We've found ourselves in financial crisis after the 'cost of living' has hit our charity. Our (now very small) team has devised a new plan to enable us to continue saving lives in conflict zones where other charities daren't operate, but we need a cash injection of £48k to be saved.

We have been growing rapidly, but since the cost of living crisis has escalated, and new wars and natural disasters spring up more regularly, this has understandably resulted in donor fatigue; people have much less disposable income so our charity shop income has also reduced dramatically, which previously provided the backbone of their income.

We are itching to get back to serving the world's most vulnerable people. We focus our efforts in precarious conflict zones like Syria, Eastern Ukraine and Gaza most recently - areas that most charities can't or won't operate in, saving lives that otherwise wouldn't be saved.

We desperately need an injection of funds that will enable us the four months required to make the required operational changes to survive these tough times - for this, we need approximately £48,000.

We are once again appealing to our wonderful community for your help – if you or your business can make a financial donation we would be so grateful. If you'd like to run your own event or fundraiser, or set up a partnership, please feel free to reach out to me directly - or find out more valentina@refugease.com.

Backstory:

In 2015, Refugease Founder, Valentina, set up a Facebook event at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells in an urgent attempt to gather humanitarian aid for refugees arriving in Europe. The event went viral, attracting thousands of willing individuals to donate items on the ‘needs’ list. After a colossal outpouring of generosity from the local community, the group collected four double-decker buses of aid over a period of two days, and were lucky enough to have been donated a warehouse to begin operating from.

The organisation has since developed three focus areas around the world: frontline evacuations, emergency humanitarian aid deliveries, and self-reliance initiatives. Refugease's online "aid shop" model also allows their teams to respond to emergencies all over the world within a few short hours. The charity mostly operates in areas where conflicts are at their most precarious, ensuring to spend funds on missions assisting refugees that otherwise wouldn't be saved. The charity offers full transparency, committing to their ethos of using 100% of donated and fundraised funds on charitable activities.
