Please help to keep a roof over our heads

During Storm Éowyn, our church roof suffered significant damage—so much so that we haven’t been able to use the building since. We're trying to make repairs so that Harbour can continue to be a place of refuge.

Story

We don’t like asking for help, but the truth is we really could use some.

During Storm Éowyn, our church roof suffered significant damage—so much so that we haven’t been able to use the building since. Because part of the damage is due to the age of the roof, our insurance will only cover 50% of the repair costs, leaving us with a £16,000 shortfall.

This is more than we can manage alone, so we’re reaching out for help.

We know times are tough for many, and the last thing we want is for anyone to feel pressured. But if you’re in a position to help—no matter how small the contribution—it would mean the world to us.

Whether you’re able to give or simply share this appeal, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Our church has stood strong for years because of this incredible community—and with your help, we hope to keep the roof over our heads for many more to come.

Why is Harbour so important?

HFC holds a unique space in Northern Ireland, offering a particular welcome to all LGBTQIA+ people of faith or any who have experienced marginalisation within traditional churches.

Originally coming out of the independent evangelical church tradition, we now celebrate and hold space for what is sometimes called "Progressive Christianity".

This simply means that we try to follow the way of Jesus with open hearts and open minds - valuing questions as much as answers, welcoming diverse perspectives, and embracing the wisdom found in science, culture, and other spiritual traditions.

It’s about love in action—fighting injustice, caring for nature, and creating inclusive communities where all are welcomed, regardless of background, belief, or identity.

Harbour Faith Community is an open and affirming Christian church, as all churches should be. We acknowledge that throughout history, the Christian church has often condemned and excluded people on the grounds of race, culture, age, gender, economic status, disability or sexual orientation. While the church has made progress in being open and affirming to many groups, there continues to be condemnation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons from the community of faith, or at least, a tolerance of such condemnation and exclusion through silence. We are convinced that such actions are inconsistent with Christ’s teachings. We are therefore committed to becoming a community of faith-keeping and faith-seeking people who affirm that every person has worth as a unique creation made in the image of God. We recognise, celebrate and give thanks for the many diverse gifts of God among us. We declare ourselves to be an open and affirming congregation, welcoming into the full life and ministry of the church persons of every race, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and economic status. We are committed to modelling a community of faith and spirit that works toward openness and understanding - offering justice, healing and wholeness of life for all people. We are convinced that through our diversity, all can grow and practise a unity of faith that transcends our differences. We extend this statement of welcome especially to those who have known the pain of exclusion or discrimination in the church and wider society. The call to follow Jesus is not an easy one for any of us, but whatever our race, sexuality or gender - we’re all in this together.
