Here at the Museum, we rely heavily on the revenue from events to support our general operating budget, which includes caring for our ten acres and 16 historic buildings. We've been sobered by the pandemic and its fallout, which forced the cancellation of most of our 2020, and many of our 2021 events. But canceled events certainly do not cancel our need for those funds.
The days of cramming 110 people into the church for concerts and lectures, or 50 women into the mansion for a tea party, are over for now. But happily, summer is on the way, and we can host outdoor events again! But even then, we are a victim of the weather.
Our goal is to create a space where we can host outdoor events from April - October, regardless of the weather. To accomplish this we would need to purchase a 30 x 40 tent with sides and accessories, chairs, tables, lighting, heaters, and fans. Plus a retractable awning that would shelter our existing stage.
The space could also be rented out for parties, weddings, meetings, etc. These rentals would create additional revenue for the Historical Society and would benefit the community as well.
Creating a safe, outdoor space to host events is imperative for us. It's not just about entertaining and socializing, it's about our financial survival. If you have ever enjoyed a lecture, concert, party, or program at the Museum, we hope you'll find this campaign worth supporting and help us create this much-needed space.
