Story

Your help is crucial in keeping "Growing Chrysalis" operational.

"Growing Chrysalis" serves as a vital sanctuary for individuals in our community, offering a tranquil space for relaxation, healing, and personal growth. Over the years, it has evolved into a cherished resource, providing solace and support to many individuals confronting various challenges. The garden is accessible to the entire community, encouraging proactive engagement in personal well-being. Moreover, we collaborate with local schools, colleges, nurseries, and various statutory and voluntary sector groups, fostering a collaborative environment of growth and support within our space.

Therapeutic gardening has long been recognised for its ability to alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as to enhance life satisfaction and quality of life. Additionally, it fosters a sense of community and belonging. At SAMH, we firmly believe that engaging in outdoor activities amidst nature with a group of people is among the most effective tools for fostering individual and community well-being.

In 2021, we established “Growing Chrysalis” within a former bowling green in Dundee. Initially conceived as a community garden for families navigating mental health challenges in the neighbouring areas of Douglas and Broughty Ferry, the response from the community exceeded our expectations. Since its inception, over 6000 individuals have benefited from the offerings of Growing Chrysalis, reaffirming its importance and impact within the community.

However, in light of public sector cuts, we are now facing significant financial difficulties that threaten the garden's future. Without additional support, we risk losing this invaluable asset that has positively impacted the lives of so many in our community.

We need your assistance in ensuring the continued operation of "Growing Chrysalis." Your support, whether through financial contributions or spreading awareness, can make a significant difference in preserving this essential resource for our community.
