Story

We are proud to be part of the fabric of Salford and want to remain part of this wonderful community forever. Your donations will help us to develop and maintain our services and Salford Museum and Art Gallery and Ordsall Hall for future generations.

Both sites run a fantastic programme of exhibitions, events, activities and learning and we are proud to be free to visit.

Salford Museum and Art Gallery first opened in 1850 and has continued to provide a cultural hub for the people of Salford and visitors from further afield for over 170 years. Ordsall Hall dates back to the 14th Century in its oldest parts, but buildings are recorded there as early as 1277.

In addition to our programme of exhibitions we also provide subsidised learning programmes including free loan boxes for people living with dementia, school sessions and holiday activities for families. The grounds at Ordsall promote organic gardening, natural play and wellbeing, and many people will have fond memories of Lark Hill Place, our Victorian street, which opened to the public at Salford Museum and Art Gallery in 1957 and has been going strong ever since. We help to keep Salford's heritage alive and, as well as our exhibitions, we also house Salford's local history library and provide support for those tracing their family history. The collection of photographs of Salford looked after by the local history library is one of our most popular resources, with many pictures now available online thanks to the work of a team of volunteers. Visit www.salford.photos and see if you can find the street that you lived on!

Thank you for your support!
