Story
Shelter. Safety. Support.
We believe that safe accommodation is a fundamental human right.
Everyone deserves a safe place to live and access to the support they need.
Everyone.
Safe in Scotland provides dignified accommodation and trauma-informed support for people experiencing asylum-related destitution. We have been doing this since 2011 and we're now delighted to be providing this vital support as part of Simon Community Scotland.
Why we exist?
Glasgow is the UK’s biggest asylum dispersal area and it has been a hugely welcoming city. Unfortunately, the simple truth is that there isn't enough accommodation and what there is doesn't meet the needs of those who need it. At any given time we estimate that there are about 200 people in need of accommodation, stripped of their dignity, and forced into rough sleeping and other survival decisions.
Why we need your help?
We provide a place of safety 365 nights/year for over a hundred people each year.
In 2019, we began a radical transformation from a basic overnight shelter to a 24/7 trauma-informed human rights centre. Our current premises has space for 17 guests. Here our community can immediately access dignified private accommodation; time, space and support to explore their rights; and access to services to improve their wellbeing
How you can help
Your donation will help us look after people in Scotland who are destitute, with little or no money to meet basic needs to survive.
Every single pound helps us provide shelter, safety and support. Pillows, bedding, clothes, toiletries, food and it helps us fight their cause.
And what your help means
"It was a very friendly, helpful environment. It was like a second home with the staff and guests becoming like another family to me”
'I liked everything about it starting from the accommodation to food, games and so much more, hard to describe what it has meant to me”
