Every single week, families are going hungry in Sheffield.

We see this at our eleven foodbank locations across the city, stretching from Parson Cross to Woodhouse, and Abbeydale to Firth Park.

Daily, we hear from people who have to choose between paying their energy bills, repairing the washing machine, buying new shoes for the kids, or putting food on the table.

And the problem is only getting bigger.

Over the past decade, demand for emergency food has exploded across Sheffield. The pandemic and cost of living crisis exacerbated long-standing issues in our communities, meaning increasing numbers of people can no longer afford to meet their basic living costs.

Sadly, your support has never been more needed.

Last year, we supported over 50,000 people with emergency food parcels. 20,000 of these were children. This is simply not acceptable.

Your generous donations mean we can be there for people when they need us. Along with providing emergency food, your support enables our trained volunteers and partner agencies to provide support with debt, benefits claims, budgeting, housing, employment, and signposting for mental health and wellbeing. Because hunger is rarely just about food.

As we help our guests to unpick some of these issues, we can start to support them towards a brighter future without needing foodbanks. And that is better for all of us, wherever we live in Sheffield.

At Sheffield S6 Foodbank, we believe that the city-wide problem of hunger in our communities needs city-wide awareness, a city-wide conversation, and a city-wide response.
