Story
Imagine arriving in Exeter from a completely different part of the world. Your whole life has turned upside down and you’ve come to seek safety. However, the language is unfamiliar. The culture is different. The processes are almost impossible to understand.
And you may only have as little as £9 a week to live on.
Your contribution will provide a warm welcome in Devon, to help people seeking asylum rebuild their lives.
In particular, your donation will help purchase a Welcome Pack containing the sort of items most of us take for granted on a daily basis: a toothbrush, soap, a warm jumper, underwear and other comforts. It will also contain useful items like a map for Exeter, folders and pens, stationery for children starting school. No-one should have to struggle to get these basic items.

Refugee Support Devon (RSD) is a charity based in Exeter, providing information, advice and practical support to refugees and people seeking asylum.
In 2023, we worked with partners to assist over 600 newly arrived people in Devon, with many often living in isolated, temporary hotel accommodation. Our work ranges from looking after people’s welfare needs through to providing access to appropriate legal advice. We’ve witnessed first hand the difficulty of settling in. The urgent need to get the children into schools and to begin the process of supporting someone through a tough and adversarial asylum process makes this a demanding situation.
“Refugee Support have helped me and my children since we first came to Devon. They have been there for us making us feel welcome, helping me to get my children into school and gave us a phone and SIM card. I know I have someone to talk to." - Refugee Support Devon client
Your support this Christmas will help provide not only a welcome pack, but could also cover a range of other support: materials for art, craft and games; provisions for new-born children; transport costs to get people to activities and events to connect with the local community; and much more.
Donate now and provide a warm Devon welcome this Christmas.
