Story
Welcome to our Roy's Runners London Marathon 2019 Just Giving Team Page!
About Us:
Firstly, we want to thank you so much for choosing to support Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. There are a lot of charities in the UK, but we are the only UK charity wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer. It is a responsibility we take very seriously.
Lung cancer is the UK's biggest cancer killer - in both men and women. It killed more people than breast, colo-rectal and prostate cancer combined and yet receives only 6% of research funding. This is simply not good enough and we should all expect better.
Research:
We have given over £30 million towards lung cancer research. We fund projects which give researchers the opportunity to test a hypothesis. This then gives them the necessary results needed to secure further funding to make the breakthrough lung cancer so desperately needs.
Campaigning:
On 21st November 2017, Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, announced plans to roll out a Lung Health Check programme across England. We are committed to earlier detection of lung cancer, ensuring patients are diagnosed at the earliest stage when treatment is potentially curative.

Information and Support:
From providing essential information about lung cancer to offering financial and emotional support, we are here to help everyone affected by lung cancer from diagnosis, through treatment and in palliative care.
Lung cancer can affect anyone - men and women, young and old, smoker and non-smoker. For our Lung Cancer Awareness Month campaign 2017, we confronted the stigma many people with lung cancer encounter, head on and with our HeadHigh

Prevention:
The best way to beat lung cancer is to stop it from ever happening. We work tirelessly to help people reduce their risk of getting lung cancer; from successfully campaigning the smoking ban in public places to educating children and young adults with our innovative Cut Films projects.
Early Detection:
Fear stops one in four of us from going to the doctor with potential cancer symptoms. But we know the sooner lung cancer is caught, the better a person's chance of survival.
So as part of our campaign for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we're challenging the misconceptions and fears around lung cancer to improve awareness, attitudes and, ultimately, early detection and survival rates.

Our Services:
Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is proud to offer a range of services for those affected by lung cancer, including our free nurse led helpline, lung cancer information days, free will writing services, lung cancer support groups, patient grants and funeral planning and bereavement services.
We simply couldn't do this without our fantastic supporters who work tirelessly throughout the year to raise money to fund these life changing services. We cannot thank you enough!
London Marathon:
The London Marathon is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are set to have over 70 runners taking part, with each person raising a whopping £2,000 for the charity. As you can imagine, this is not an easy task! This is months of fundraising, organising events, bag packs, raffles and bake sales. Months of running in the dark, rain, snow and mud. It's months of blisters, black toe nails and niggling injuries. Everyone who runs this iconic race is a super hero to us, so please take a look at their fundraising pages and dig deep to help them hit their target.
