Story
Since 2012, our Oarsome rowing challenges have become part of AHOY's framework.
A series of exciting challenges on the River Thames and the English Channnel which welcomes people from all walks of life to experience the joys of learning to row whilst pulling together for one common goal - to support our charitable activities.
During 2020, we were on course for another successful year where we were due to welcome 131 crews to our challenge campaign, 770 individuals who cumulatively would have achieved 7,476 miles of on water rowing.
Like many charities, the Coronavirus pandemic has caused the cancellation of major events and AHOY fell into this category mid-June where a decision was made to cancel our rowing challenges for the remainder of 2020, resulting in an expected loss of income of £400,000. This was a tough but neccessary decision to ensure we adhered to the government's restrictions to reduce the spread of the virus and maintain the wellbeing of our staff, beneficiaries and supporters.
It's been a tough year and the pandemic has left young people and disabled adults feeling alone, worried about their wellbeing and futures and remain limited to activities available in their community.
It's as important as ever that we're able to support these individuals by delivering our activities and training and we're asking you to help us by joining #Rowvember!
This November grab your oars, running shoes or wheels and make your miles count by donating £1 for every mile you achieve.
Our target is to complete the distance that would have been rowed by our valiant oarsome challengers during 2020 - a total of 7,476.
