Story
RowRunner 2019 supports Brathay Trust's Focus on Furness Appeal. Over 20 per cent of children from Barrow-in-Furness are living in poverty; above the national level for England. In some areas of the district these figures rise to almost 50 per cent.
Children from poorer backgrounds lag behind at all stages of education and are twice as likely to live in bad housing. This has significant effects on their physical and mental health, as well as educational achievement.
While theres been a rise in the number of children in care nationally, in Barrow its increased disproportionately.
RowRunner 2019 aims to raise £9,000 to help Furness young people living in care or on the verge of entering the care system with unstable or difficult family lives. Well inspire them to build their confidence and set goals to help them find employment and live independently.
