Story

ABOUT THE EVENT

A group of local sports clubs across Elmbridge, coming together on Sunday, October 10th to raise awareness and funds for young people's mental health. Together, we will row, paddle and run from Elmbridge Canoe Club to Sadlers Ride in Hurst Park Together we are stronger, together we can make a difference!

WHY NOW?

Now more than ever, with the impact of the pandemic, people's mental health is at an all-time low. We will never truly know how people's mental health has been affected by the multiple lockdowns and not being able to see their friends, family and support groups for such long periods of time. We believe that the treatment available for those suffering with mental illness is severely limited.....

To put in perspective, it costs £200 to fund one counselor at one school who can see five young people in one day. This amounts to £8500 per year to provide one school with a counselor one day a week. Each counselling session lasts between 6-12 weeks. At current levels, The Grace Dear Trust can support 100 students per year.

The Grace Dear Trust is a mental health charity recently set up after losing our daughter & sister Grace Dear to suicide aged just 27 in February 2017. We started this charity hoping to help save the lives of other young people suffering with mental health issues. Mental health affects 1 in 4 people and too many of them suffer without the help they need. We want change, letting people know “it’s ok not to be ok”. "Together We Are Stronger"
