Story
The National Animal Welfare Trust in Bedfordshire cares for and rehomes approximately 35-40 animals a month. Running a centre with this many animals obviously has high running costs, and fundraising is vital for us to continue to help the numbers of animals that we do. When vet bills can hit £5k – in one month! – an all hands on deck approach to fundraising is needed… and Carley, and Rosie are showing us how it’s done!
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is tough 26-miles round trip route and includes 1585m of ascent. It takes on the gruelling peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres) and if that isn’t challenging enough – the aim is to be completed in under 12 hours.
Our centre manager, Carley, is one of the brave duo attempting the hike:
“I love hiking so hill walking is not new to me, but this is a big challenge. It’s a tough one, even for experienced hikers. We know it’s not going to be easy… but we’re determined. We’d love to raise a lot of money for the centre - it would make it all worthwhile!
The animals we meet and work with day in day out deserve our time, care and attention but all this costs money. Some of the animals we care for have experienced trauma and are often shut down or terrified. Meeting these animals and seeing what they go through – and overcome – is truly inspiring, it’s why I love working at the centre – and why I’m doing this challenge!
Please do consider donating to our challenge, we’d love to smash our £500 target!”

Rosie and Carley – staff at our NAWT Bedfordshire centre will be attempting this challenge on the 22nd of June, join us in wishing them enormous luck by donating any amount you can.
