Story

Rosie is our 3 year old, Peppa Pig loving, girl from Sunderland. She is twin sister to Emily and baby sister to Evie. Her dream is to be able to play alongside her sisters and with your help, she is making this a reality.

Rosie was born prematurely at 34 weeks after a placental abruption. She was born unresponsive and required extensive resuscitation and CPR before being put on life support and transferred to intensive care, ready to face the biggest fight for her life.

The lack of oxygen before, during and after birth meant she was in a critical condition. She soon started to have seizures and was sent for a MRI to check the damage. This showed severe brain damage. We were told numerous times that she might not survive or if she did then she would not have a great quality of life.

She stayed in NICU for 5 weeks requiring breathing support and would often just stop breathing and require emergency care. She also contracted a life threatening infection which prolonged her stay further. It was always 2 steps forward and 10 steps back.

Rosie eventually came home still requiring to be fed via tube as she was not (and still is not) safe to have food orally. It was very obvious from early on that she was severely delayed in comparison to her twin sister.

At 7 months of age she received a diagnosis of quadriplegic cerebral palsy. She has high tone (stiffness) in her arms and legs and low tone (floppiness) in her trunk. This makes doing every task, even holding her own head up, a challenge.

Having said all of that, she is defying the odds and is so determined to be on the move. She recently started to sit and to crawl and is so close to independent standing.

With the help of intensive therapy, we are so hopeful that she will reach her full potential. Her most recent therapy started with her needing full support to stand, to walking along pushing a chair within 5 days! But, therapy like this costs around £2000+ per week. We are humbly asking for the help.
