Story
The Romero Scholars program is a unique academic, formative, and mentoring program preparing Hispanic/Lantinx Catholics for ministerial leadership in the Catholic Church. The scholarship provides full tuition for Hispanic/Latinx Catholics to pursue graduate degrees in theology and ministry. This all-inclusive tuition benefit is essential to these programs as the cost of a ministerial education is prohibitive for many who wish to serve the Catholic Church in this capacity.
Romero scholars are given the opportunity to pursue serious graduate theological studies. This opportunity not only affects the students themselves, but also their communities through their faith formation, engaged parish life and evangelization. Romero Scholars are better equipped to articulate the Catholic faith to others in a compelling and informed manner. The program cultivates quality ministerial leaders who are rooted in and sensitive to the gifts and needs of Hispanic/Latinx Catholics. Through lectures, pilgrimages, prayer services, and other events, the Romero Scholars program is a beacon of the important history and contributions of Hispanic/Latinx Catholics in Chicago.
