Story

Yemen is suffering.

A full blown conflict between the Huthis and the Coalition states (led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE) has left millions of innocent civilians bearing the brunt of war over the past 5 years. Most have lost their homes, jobs, savings and routines and the ongoing military hostilities has destroyed crucial infrastructure such as hospitals.

Amidst this war, the country has witnessed a painful cholera outbreak that has affected nearly 2.3 Yemenis. This is a direct result of the ongoing war, forcing people to turn to dirtier water as clean water plants have been bombed. Although cholera is fairly easy to treat with antibiotics, the Saudi blockade into Yemen has ensured that theres a shortage of medicine, food and aid, allowing the disease to spread more and more. This year has been even harder for many families as Covid-19 has hit the country. With a complete breakdown of infrastructure and no real way to prevent the spread of the disease, it is unclear how far the virus has spread.

Blockades and war have made humanitarian assistance in Yemen increasingly hard. Plus the countrys economy is in severe decline and with rising food prices and people out of work, families are stuck in a catch-22 situation and are turning to increasingly high cost coping strategies to survive. It is now estimated that there are nearly 3.6 million people internally displaced in the country and the United Nations classifies nearly one-quarter of the whole population as malnourished.

We all know the story of Yemen and we are all witness to its reality. This is why Road to Freedom are working with Saba Relief Foundation to raise £10,000 to provide food and medical assistance to families on the ground.

Funds raised will be used to:

- Provide monthly food parcels to feed a family of 7. This will include basic necessities such as flour, rice, sugar, oil, canned beans and pasta.

- Provide medical support for cholera treatment.

- Provide support to orphans including healthcare, food and clothing aid

Working with our partners on the ground, we will ensure that every donation towards the #RoadtoYemen campaign goes directly towards the men, women and children who need it the most. Your support, in every way, will go a long way and is hugely appreciated.

Much love,

RTF team

RCN 1169584
Road to Freedom is a non-profit charity that aims to provide refugees fleeing war-torn countries with immediate aid, which includes food, clothing and hygiene kits. Working with official NGO’s and charities on the ground at borders and refugee camps, we personally hand aid to those men, women and children in desperate need. Road to Freedom have developed a professional team of volunteers who extensively fund raise each month ahead of their journey to a different location in crisis. Each volunteer effectively distributes aid in a professional and humane manner alongside NGO’s and other on-site charities. Alongside our valuable work on the ground, we consistently strive to raise awareness in the international worlds about the tragic effects of the continuing vulnerability of the refugees affected by war.
