Story

The Road to Recovery Trust is a network of individuals inspired by the transformative effects of 12 step recovery in their own lives. Its aim is to bridge the gap between those who have found recovery and those who still suffer unaware that a solution exists.

George Street Social is a cafe that is run by the Road to Recovery Trust, an organisation founded on the principles of 12 Step Program with the aim of transforming the North East of England into a region with one of the highest rates of abstinence-based recovery from addictions in the country.

George Street Social was opened in July 2016 to provide a safe place for people in all stages of recovery along with the general public to enjoy an alcohol free social space. An essential aspect of George Street Social is that its one of the best coffee shops in town, providing a bridge to normality for those in recovery, rather than the community being segregated. The space is used for any purpose that helps people grow, flourish or improve any aspect of their physical, emotional, spiritual & mental wellbeing.
