Story

The RoadPeace Challenge is an annual awareness-raising and fundraising event that takes place in May during UN Global Road Safety Week.

This year’s RoadPeace Challenge will take place on May 13-19, 2024.

Now in its fourth year, the event has already raised £140,000 for RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, as well as considerable public awareness around road harm.

Due to the event's success, the RoadPeace Challenge has the full backing of the National Police Chiefs' Council and the National Fire Chiefs' Council, and now features on the National Roads Partnership Operations Calendar 2024 - 2025.

The mission of the RoadPeace Challenge is:

“To bring together police forces, the fire service, ambulance crews, PCCs, the NHS, doctors, nurses and other professionals who witness the daily devastation caused by road crashes in the UK, along with victims, bereaved families and communities – to make a united stand against road death and injury.”

The concept of the RoadPeace Challenge 2024:

- Supporters will collectively walk, run, cycle or horse ride 1,766 miles during the week of action (May 13-19, 2024) to honour the 1,766 people reported killed on UK roads in 2022

- We will count down from 1,766 to zero – to reflect our UK Vision Zero efforts

- Anybody can take part – no distance is too short

- Supporters can take part alone or as part of a team

- Participants can cover a short distance each day or complete one main event

Why is the RoadPeace Challenge so important?

By taking part in the event or making a donation, supporters will help to:

- Raise awareness about the unacceptable number of deaths and injuries on our roads – Every day, on average, around five people die and hundreds more are injured in collisions on our roads

- Raise awareness about the incredible work of the emergency services in responding to road crashes, day in, day out

- Raise awareness about the vital support that RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, provides to victims and bereaved families

- Raise money for RoadPeace to ensure that we can continue to run our helpline, befriending service and local support groups, which provide a lifeline for many people

Thank you so much for your support - it means so much to RoadPeace and the many crash victims and bereaved families that we support
