Ripley Music Festival began a number of years ago with original music (ROM fest) on the Market Place. We now host a number of events including Proms in the Park on Crossley Park with fireworks which is attended by quite a few people.
A lot of preparation and hard work is needed to put the Festival on each year. A dedicated team of volunteers works endlessly to ensure that Ripley's largest event happens.
The music festival is part of our great community.
When my wife and I first moved to Ripley, I was a prodigal Derbyshire man returning whereas my wife was from Yorkshire and had never lived in the area....The music festival was the 1st time that she felt she was part of a great community...it embodied our love for live music and the sense of togetherness that the event produces.
And it has given opportunities to many.
The music festival gave me fantastic opportunities right from being a young musician in my teenage years. I got the chance to play with and learn from professional musicians, it gave me and my friends a space to develop our own music, get it recorded and ultimately perform on the big stage to 1000s of people. I gained skills and confidence that I might never have had otherwise. I owe the festival and those who've kept it going for 20 years a debt of gratitude and I'm endlessly proud to now give something back as a fundraiser and committed member. My hope is I can ensure the next generation has access to the encouragement, opportunities and brilliant experiences that I did!
