Story

The Right Track Project team and young people have built two electric karts from scratch. Now we have the knowledge of how to build, repair and maintain electric karts we can move on the big plan to completely electrify the Right Track Project.

This means buying a fleet of electric karts and the mechanism for charging the batteries. Then we can be pollution free - no petrol fumes and no noise.

The Right Track Project is a unique and important facility which supports the wellbeing of 100's of local young people every year.

Karting is a thrilling activity, with the risk and challenge of driving fast a magnet for attracting our hard-to-reach users. With this as a hook, The Right Track Project uses skilled youth workers and mentors to support disaffected youths develop self-confidence, community connectedness and a broadening of horizons through a range of practical and educational activities. The activities delivered through the programme include, in addition to karting, training to mechanically maintain the karts, training as track marshals and volunteers to assist the delivery of private sessions and learning to take measured risk through carefully structured kart-racing sessions. In addition to these activities, the Right Track Project provides these young people with AQA accredited vocational training courses which cover all areas relating to karting and motorsport, such as mechanics, marshalling, volunteering, health and safety and event planning. Alongside these practical activities, the programme delivers regular workshops, which cover information on health, crime, careers and life skills plus signposting to encourage the young people to make positive decisions.

To maximise engagement, The Right-Track has a youth-led ethos. Weekly de-briefs and feedback sessions give young people the opportunity to reflect on the weeks challenges, share skills, praise each others progress, and make decisions about changing and improving the service delivered. This gives a sense of ownership and achievement, reinforcing the impact of making positive choices.
