Help us respond to the impact of COVID-19 in fragile states
Rights for Peace is taking part in the 2.6 Challenge - money raised will be used to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 misinformation in fragile states and refugee camps, and to support those struggling to survive as a result of inadequate humanitarian response. Preventing tensions from rising is now more important than ever.
'Here in Adjumani it's risky because people are not following social distancing... people in the camp were misled with the wrong information about COVID-19. Moreover, hunger is the major problem we have in the camp at the moment' - Adjumani refugee camp, North Uganda
In places like South Sudan, community divisions and levels of hate crime risk being exacerbated due to the extra pressure on resources as a result of COVID-19 . We are especially concerned about internally displaced people, many of whom are living in overcrowded camps with limited access to hygiene facilities.
What is the 2.6 Challenge?
The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of many fundraising events, including the London Marathon which was due to take place on the 26th of April. Thousands of UK charities have been hugely impacted by the loss of income that this event generates. As a result of COVID-19, Rights for Peace has lost important opportunities to raise funds. Like many other organisations across the UK, we are participating in The 2.6 Challenge to help to support small charities through this difficult period.
The 2.6 Challenge asks us to simply partake in any activity that relates to the numbers 26 or 2.6. People have baked 26 cookies, completed 26 push-ups and even built a 2.6-metre lego tower! The only requirement is that you follow the government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.
Be our Home Hero!
Take part in the 2.6 challenge and help us to continue to support peace-building efforts in divided nations!
Make sure you share your challenge on social media, tag @rightsforpeace or @peace_rights and use the hashtag #twopointsixchallenge !
