Our RAID Walkers team: Lucy, Anji, Ella, Teresa, Terence, Frances, Ron, Sara, Amber, Sara, Simon, Josh, Duncan, Sarah, Mike, Katie & Christine, are walking to raise money to support our Spade gardening service. It will help us to support 40 disabled people with their gardens during the year. In 2020 we were proud to be chosen as the Richmond Borough Community Project of the year.
Our regular visits ensure that people have a place outside to enjoy and our gardening volunteers are a friendly face they get to know. The service greatly reduces stress and anxiety for people not being able to care for their gardens themselves. The funding raised will enable us to continue the service that we know is so valued.
Here's what some of our clients say...
When Jane's husband passed away, she was devastated and resisted all encouragement to have friends round to visit. "My husband always kept the garden so beautifully, but I am not able to keep it up. I'm too embarrassed to invite anyone over." Spade now visits several times a year to help keep the garden tidy and well maintained. Jane has regained her confidence and enjoys inviting family and friends over for a chat in her garden.
"The gardeners were all amazing, the garden looks better than it has in years - thank you so much. Wonderful! Very much appreciated."
"I cannot express how grateful I am. My garden means a lot to me and the volunteers help enables me to maintain and enjoy it. They are a lovely and kind bunch of people."
"I am very thankful for the help you are supplying as I could no longer cope by myself."
