Story
Let it snow this Christmas for our patients and residents.
This year we will once again be lighting up the front of the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) to spread festive cheer and joy to our patients, their families, staff and the local community.
All donations from our Let it Snow display will be used to fund sensory equipment for our patients and residents, engaging multiple senses, including sight, sound, touch, and sometimes even smell and taste and offers many potential benefits including:
• Cognitive Stimulation - improving memory, attention and perception
• Communication and Expression - thoughts, feelings, and intentions
• Emotional Regulation - the ability to manage emotions
• Inclusivity – being involved when they would usually be excluded due to their condition
• A feeling of normality.
Your support will help us to bring joy and Christmas spirit to all our patients, residents, staff and families here at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability.

Hannah’s life changed forever one morning when she was hit by a bus on a zebra crossing. She was airlifted to St George’s where part of her skull was removed to reduce the pressure from the swelling on her brain. After coming out of surgery, Hannah spent the next four months in a coma.
For Hannah, the challenges were enormous, she had lost the ability to talk and her movement was severely limited. With the help of the various therapy teams, Hannah began her rehabilitation and learned to communicate using her assistive technology.
The Music Therapy team worked with Hannah to improve her strength, dexterity and confidence. Before she had even mastered the use of her communication aids, she was expressing herself-
‘I have discovered a new talent, I love to sing.'
Although Hannah has lost her ability to communicate verbally, she can engage with the singing sessions. Hannah sings twice a week in her ward choir and it is often the highlight of her week. For patients like Hannah who have lost the ability to speak, Music Therapy can be a vital means of communicating and expressing emotion.
‘The love they showed me will always stay with me.’
Your donations are improving the lives of our residents, just like Hannah!
