Story
Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) raise funds to give sick and premature newborns at the RBH the best possible start in life. Our charity is run by parents that have had a baby spend time on Buscot Ward. We have been there too. That is why we care so deeply, and want to make the experience for all babies admitted to Buscot Ward and their families the best it can possibly be.
We help to provide costly and life-saving medical equipment, improve family facilities such as overnight accommodation for parents and staff training for Buscot Ward. Vitally, we also fund a professional Family Support Practitioner to visit the unit three times a week and be a listening ear for families at what is one of the most emotional and difficult times of their lives.
Team BIBS 2019 are working towards 2 goals -
Goal one!
Buscot Ward needs a new Cerebral Function Monitoring (CFM) machine to replace one currently on Buscot that is *the only one* in the south region neonatal network. It is 13 years old, broken and no longer supported for repairs. Buscot are currently trialling two replacements but by March will be in a position to order a replacement and need Team BIBS to help raise the money for us to buy it. This machine helps monitor brain function in babies and is a vital tool in diagnosis, and clinical decision making for treatment. Having the machine on Buscot can help prevent unnecessary transfers to Oxford for this purpose too.
Goal two!
Buscot are seeking to achieve Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation from UNICEF - an achievement that will help embed a family-centred approach to care on the ward. They need Team BIBS to help fund a two day training course for 16 staff that will help on their way to meeting all the standards necessary for accreditation.
