Raising Revenue for Rice
Rice is a staple food in Cambodia and for the children at KaisKids. The price of rice continues to rise year on year. There is always an ongoing need for funds to enable us to feed the children.
Rice is a staple food in Cambodia and for the children at KaisKids. The price of rice continues to rise year on year. There is always an ongoing need for funds to enable us to feed the children.
Over the past few years, it has been a continuous challenge at KaisKids to raise money for basic needs such as food.
In the past at our rural setting at Kais Village, we were able to grow rice in the farm to supplement our food budget, but a change in seasonal weather patterns in the local area, made this no longer viable.
Climate changes such as cycles of droughts and floods, the downturn of the worlds economy, rising food prices and rice shortages, have all contributed to the ongoing challenges in Cambodia. However, local producers in our rural community always kindly donated a few sacks of rice to KaisKids, to top up our food needs for the children.
We have now been in our new location in Phnom Penh for a year, which is providing better infrastructure and more favourable living conditions. We are in the process of cultivating a small patch of land where we can grow vegetables to supplement the children's diet, but this will take a few years to develop.
Rice and decent water continue to be our most basic needs.
On average, US$10 can buy enough rice to last one child 4 weeks or US$110 will buy enough rice to last one child an entire year.
US $30 will buy a 50kg sack of rice.
This year we are spending approximately US $300 per month = 10x 50kg sacks (@38 million grains of rice)
By raising revenue for rice, you are helping to nourish and sustain the children at KaisKids. Thank You.
